Our staff strives to create confident, motivated cheerleaders with outstanding athletic and leadership skills. While we focus on individual skills, our main goal is to mold our athletes into members of a team that conducts itself with the utmost sportsmanlike conduct.

All of our coaches are experienced cheerleaders and coaches who are excited about helping our athletes work toward a rewarding season. 

Michael Whitney Owner, Coach Michael and his wife Kristi opened KC Cheer in 1999. Michael graduated from Kansas State University, where he was a member of the cheer squad. Michael has coached many athletes from the time they were five years old all the way until they were seniors in high school. He loves when alumni come back to the gym to visit. Michael is a dad to Harrison, 20 and Ashleigh, 19.

Mary Lewis Gym Manager When you walk in the door of KC Cheer, chances are Mary is going to be the first face you see. Shanna Stonestreet Coach, Social Media Manager, Private Lessons Shanna has been coaching at KC Cheer for 15 years and has coached two teams to win NCA National Titles. Shanna has a background in competitive gymnastics so she is great at helping young athletes with technique and tumbling basics. She has experience judging allstar cheerleading, has extensive knowledge of the allstar cheerleading scoresheet and how best to create a routine to score well. Shanna also manages KC Cheer's social media accounts. Shanna teaches private tumbling lessons.

Shanna has been coaching at KC Cheer for 15 years and has coached two teams to win NCA National Titles. Shanna has a background in competitive gymnastics so she is great at helping young athletes with technique and tumbling basics. She has experience judging allstar cheerleading, has extensive knowledge of the allstar cheerleading scoresheet and how best to create a routine to score well. Shanna also manages KC Cheer's social media accounts. Shanna teaches private tumbling lessons.

Victoria Zonko Coach, Manager of Recreational Classes, Private Lessons Victoria (better known by her last name, Zonko) started cheering at KC Cheer when she was 12 years old and cheered through her freshman year of college. Harrison Whitney Coach, Tumbling Instructor, Private Lessons Harrison was an athlete at KC Cheer for 10 years and is starting his third year as a coach this season. He was on Fierce 5 for six years, where he led the team to a fourth place finish at The Cheerleading Worlds in 2014 and 5th place in 2015. Last year Harrison coached Fantasy and Ferocious, who both competed at the Summit at the end of the year.  Harrison is a student at KU, and is available for private lessons.

Harrison was an athlete at KC Cheer for 10 years and is starting his third year as a coach this season. He was on Fierce 5 for six years, where he led the team to a fourth place finish at The Cheerleading Worlds in 2014 and 5th place in 2015. Last year Harrison coached Fantasy and Ferocious, who both competed at the Summit at the end of the year.  Harrison is a student at KU, and is available for private lessons.

Katie Lewis Coach,  Gym Marketing Manager, Website Manager Katie joined KC Cheer when she was just an awkward 11 year-old. She was an athlete in the all-star program for 8 seasons and graduated from the program as a four-time Worlds Finalist and a member of the original Fierce 5 (she and her teammates coined the team name!) After graduating from the University of Kansas, Katie is excited to be back in the gym as a coach and to teach athletes about the value of hard work and that the world doesn’t always revolve around one person, just like Michael and Kristi taught her. She was an athlete in the all-star program for 8 seasons and graduated from the program as a four-time Worlds Finalist and a member of the original Fierce 5 (she and her teammates coined the team name!) After graduating from the University of Kansas, Katie is excited to be back in the gym as a coach and to teach athletes about the value of hard work and that the world doesn’t always revolve around one person, just like Michael and Kristi taught her. Katie also does a lot of the marketing for gym events and runs the website.

Kaitlin Rabe Coach Kaitlin is excited to be back in the gym for her second year as a coach. She's excited to pass on her knowledge of flying to the young athletes in the gym. Isahia Brooks Coach, Private Lessons Isahia is starting his second year as a coach at KC Cheer. He has cheered for nine years at both the allstar and college levels. Ashleigh has experience with athletes of all ages and all skill levels. Ashleigh will be attending K-State in the fall, where she is a member of the K-State cheer squad.

Jake Polzin Head Tumbling Instructor, Team Chiropractor Jake coaches many of our program’s tumbling classes. He has been involved in many different aspects of cheerleading. After graduating from Wichita State University with a degree in Biological Sciences, he received his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City. Dr. Jake specializes in neurologically-based chiropractic care for young kids through teens and adults; with a focus on young athletes who are exposed to repetitive trauma through training and competition. He is one of a handful of doctors in the state that provide this specific technique. He is currently the owner of Elite Performance Chiropractic and the preferred Chiropractor for KC Cheer. Jake is one of the best when it comes to teaching athletes how to be strong tumblers. His knowledge allows him to keep athletes safe while training.
